Today is a special day.

It is important to know how to do nothing from time to time, and to take advantage of the time offered to us. It is important to know how to stay still, and attentive to the different inner movements. Because doing nothing and observing within oneself is a much richer activity than the incessant activity that represents our daily life. It requires a certain quality of attention to observe the moment with detachment, without the need to do anything…

We have identified ourselves with action and have accepted to define ourselves by what we do, and often by our professional success. But we have forgotten the essential: ourselves. Because action is often a clever way to hide our “inner life”. When we act, we do not think.

Of course, life requires certain activities, out of necessity. We have to get up in the morning, feed ourselves, work, then earn money, etc… it’s understood.

But is that all our life is?

Is there anything else than this form of activity? Does the day have to be a succession of tasks and constraints linked to the need to feed, clothe and house ourselves?

We have neglected to understand who we are because of our activities. We don’t know much about what’s going on inside us. We have some vague ideas, mostly images, but the reality is often quite different. We have built our personality by default, by compromise, to fit in. We have never really taken the time to observe the world around us, nor ourselves. We are too busy doing and becoming. We accumulate all sorts of ideas, theories, and material things. One activity gives way to another…

Keep in mind

Both observation and listening require a quality of attention in which thought stops running, without purpose. But we only function through the challenges of thinking.

Stay tuned. Life goes on…
